Three years ago, I was introduced to a food charity no more than 2 miles away from my home. While there, I witnessed something that I never thought I would see, which set us on a mission to end hunger in our local communities.
When we think of hunger, we typically imagine a third-world country or an individual holding a sign on the corner of a street. What I saw that day were average Americans – individuals that dress and look like you and me. We refer to this as the “suburban poor” phenomena.
Hunger is something we don’t see every day, because people hide it behind their pride. This epidemic does not differentiate any more. It impacts the people that you interact with on a day-to-day basis – the children your kids play with, and sometimes, it may be someone in your own family.
We wanted to create a fun solution to a serious problem. We found that Americans dine out over one billion times a week. This is where we identified an opportunity and launched TangoTab. You check-in at restaurants on our free mobile app and we feed people in need. It’s that simple.
Yesterday, we celebrated a major milestone. Because of you and your check-ins at partner restaurants, we able to declare that:
This is a great beginning of our journey to end hunger, here at home. There’s a lot of work ahead, and we truly believe that with your help and sharing the mission with others, that
TOGETHER, WE CAN END HUNGER!
