Dallas, We have a Problem

22 million American children receive free or reduced-priced meals through the National School Lunch Program, during the school year. However, when school is out during the summer months, only 3.9 million receive free or reduced-price meals through the USDA Summer Food Service Program.

Childhood hunger statistics are startling. In Dallas County alone, more than 70 percent of students qualify for free or reduced-price meals. More than 262,000 Dallas County kids – a population that could fill AT&T Stadium three times – are at risk of going hungry every day this time of year.

This is why TangoTab joined forces with the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to ‘End Summer Hunger.’ We have created a way to help solve this problem without asking for consumer donations.

The community is invited to join the ‘End Summer Hunger’ campaign by downloading the TangoTab, a free mobile-app that connects socially conscious consumers with great local restaurants and using the code “FEEDNTX” when they sign up. Then every time you dine out, TangoTab will donate a meal to feed a hungry child, so that when you eat, they eat!

We have taken something that people do every day, dining out, and used it to make an impact in our community. With the community’s support, we can work to end summer hunger and ensure that students who rely on subsidized meal programs during the school year continue to get daily, nutritious, filling food during summer months.

So, download the TangoTab app and let’s make every one of your meals count. By working together, we can End Summer Hunger.
