The terrible news of the mass shootings in Texas triggered feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and fear. Like many of the people around the country, we have been reflecting on the state of our nation and questioning whether we are becoming desensitized to violence and negativity because of the frequency of such grave events.

Many questions arise– questions such as what can I do to make the world better when bad things happen? Is there anything I can do that actually counts towards positive change? Or how can we keep the hope alive when tragic events like this happen so often, all over the world? 

As we process the suffering in our communities, locally and globally, we must also recognize the opportunities that exist for us to work together to create the kind of world that we want to live in.

Solving big issues takes time; it is through the continuous efforts of likeminded people that we are able to collaboratively tackle the issues that are important to us. We  don’t have the answers to all of the world’s problems, but we are actively innovating and implementing solutions to solve the widespread issue of hunger.

Our thoughts are with the people in Texas and those around the globe who are impacted by tragedy and injustice. May the spirit of community guide us all in the face of adversity.
