Molly Kooi is a single mom, employee, intern, and full-time student. You might be surprised to know that she used to also struggle with hunger and food insecurity.
Kooi wants people to know that when it comes to hunger, “It’s just average people who need help.”

Kooi has participated in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), but at times, she still needed help making sure that both she and her son had enough food on the table. To supplement her needs, Kooi visited local food organizations such as Feeding America Western Michigan.
An estimated one in every six Americans faces hunger, and food pantries are one important resource in the national fight against food insecurity. As Kooi says, “So many people that you see on a regular basis are going to these things.”
Kooi wants to spread awareness that many average people who work hard and are doing their best to make ends meet still face hunger and need help. You can read more about her story here.
